Over the past twenty five years, Katherine has represented local government on a number of government and national commissions, and has written and spoken extensively on public sector reform, leadership and change management. Now as Director Efficiency and Reform Group, Civil Service Reform, she will give a perspective on current reform.

Speaker: Dr Nicola Millard, a futurologist working for BT whose full-time job is to gaze ahead at how our lives are likely to change, believes the reinvention of work is finally under way.


‘How can we create the conditions for innovation? – A hosted workshop’ 

Local leaders have a key role to play in creating the conditions for innovation in local public policy and service delivery. Drawing on his experience of working with many councils and their partners, Phil will lead a workshop in which participants will work on how to create the conditions for innovation in their own organisations.

‘Dancing on Ice: leadership with political astuteness’

New research by the Open University Business School on the political astuteness of public servants compares the relationship of top public servants and politicians to “dancing on ice”. Stella will share the joint findings of her joint work with Jean Hartley, Professor of Public Leadership, on how the UK’s most senior public servants work closely with politicians under the spotlight of public accountability and media scrutiny.
