Joyce Redfearn of Wigan Council is to chair the LGA’s Chief Executives’ Task Group.
The Wigan Chief Executive will lead the improvement and efficiency body following the retirement of Worcestershire’s Rob Sykes.
The task force is made up of the chief executive leads of all of the new Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnerships (RIEPs) and its role is to:
- drive forward improvement and efficiency across local government
- co-ordinate RIEP activities to maximise the benefits of collaboration and avoid duplication
- provide sector input and advice at a national level to the Local Government Association Improvement Board and more widely
- work with government departments to ensure sector led improvement becomes a reality
Joyce, who has been chief executive at Monmouthshire, Gloucestershire and then Wigan in May 2005 said on her appointment, “It is an honour to be offered this position at a time when local government is facing a hugely challenging agenda. I am determined that the Chief Executives’ Task Group, working with its partners, will provide real drive to the improvement and efficiency agenda as well as representing local authorities' interests at a national level.”
