The Deputy Policy Spokesperson on Local Government Finance supports the Policy Spokesperson in providing a lead on this policy area for the Society. They also help lead the relevant Policy Network
Mike joined Cheshire East Council as Chief Executive in August 2013 and has led a year of organisational change for the Council as it implemented a strategic commissioning approach to service delivery. Chester East has been highly commended as a council standing out for its innovative use of arms-length companies and won a number of regional and national awards over the year including a Delivering through Efficiency 2014 award.
Mike is a non-executive director of the CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accounting) Council and is the Chairman of CIPFAs International Strategy Board. Mike has held other national, regional and other non executive director roles that have included an Insurance Mutual and a Further Education College, and has been a speaker at international, national and regional conferences on a range of subjects. He was previously an Executive Director with the London Borough of Lambeth. Mike contributed to major changes and improvements in performance and quality of Lambeth Council’s services which won national and regional recognition, and, while at Westminster Council, Mike was part of the senior leadership team that won the prestigious Local Government Chronicle Council of the Year Award.
Mike started his local government career at the London Borough of Southwark before taking up his first Director role with Slough Borough Council. Mike heads up a highly skilled, experienced and highly ambitious cadre of senior leaders at the Council who are dedicated to improving service and value for money for the residents and businesses of Cheshire East.
