The Deputy Policy Spokesperson on Civil Resilience and Emergency Planning supports the Policy Spokesperson in providing a lead on this policy area for the Society. They also help lead the relevant Policy Network
Robin is Chief Executive of Calderdale Council, which he joined in January 2010. Previously, as a Director, he was responsible for a wide range of community and corporate services, which includes leading on Neighbourhoods, Customer services, Community Safety and Emergency Planning, Culture and Sport, HR, Organisational Development and ICT.
Robin Co-Chairs the CONTEST Board for Calderdale, represents the borough on the West Yorkshire CONTEST Board and Resilience Forum, and is a member of the Calderdale’s Safeguarding Children Board. In October 2015, Robin was appointed SOLACE (Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers) Deputy Spokesperson for Community Safety and Resilience and is a member of SOLACE Policy Board.
He has worked for the voluntary sector, as a Senior Probation Officer in East London, and for the London Boroughs of Waltham Forest and Barking and Dagenham, managing community, enforcement and young people’s services. In 2006, he led the local authority response in Waltham Forest to Operation Overt – the largest counter-terrorism operation in the UK to date.
Robin has been involved in a number of peer reviews with local authorities on Prevent, cohesion and corporate performance, most recently in October 2015 for Birmingham City Council. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, school governor at a local secondary school, trustee of the Lankelly Chase Foundation, and a member of the Editorial Board of the Probation Journal.
