Solace joint response with the LGA to the consultation on Local Authority Public Health Allocations 2015/16 In-Year Savings

Over August the government ran a consultation on the technical options for delivering a £200 million saving to the 2015/16 public health grant to local authorities. SOLACE responded jointly with the LGA.

Our response states that at a time when the Government has issued its firm commitment to the NHS Five Year Forward View, with prevention put very much at its heart, to cut the public health budget in-year is short-sighted, short-term and unwarranted. We are concerned that the decision to cut the public health budget could undermine the objectives we all share to improve the public’s health and to keep pressure off the NHS and Adult Social Care.
