Following Jo Miller’s recent move to New Zealand, the Solace Group Board has approved the nomination of Joanne Roney (CEO Manchester) as our new Lead Spokesperson for Leadership and Learning.

Leadership and Learning is a critical area and key priority for Solace. The work of previous spokespeople, Deborah Cadman, Becky Shaw as well as Jo, has seen us significantly expand the support provided to our members and the wider local government. From individuals starting their career to experienced Chief Executives, our work plays a growing role in helping individuals to make the most effective contribution possible to their councils and local communities.

Having a Chief Executive of such talent and insight leading a theme so central to Solace’s purpose is crucial. We are a professional body striving to provide both support and challenge to the sector, championing collaborative leadership, diversity and continuous learning. I look forward to sharing that journey with Joanne.”

New spokesperson, Joanne Roney said, “We all know local government is a powerful convenor and agent of positive change, and it’s the people within the sector who make that happen. This role is all about opening up new opportunities, growing talent and setting new standards so those people can be the best they can. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with colleagues to support current place leaders, and a new diverse generation of leaders for the future.”
